SILVER SHADOW CRUISE

RIO TO MOMBASA

MARCH 2001

Service aboard the M/V Silver Shadow. Go to Page 1 below for picture album.

This trip of a lifetime started with a two day stay in Rio de Janeiro, then 30 nights on the 6 month old M/V Silver Shadow. We ended the 10,000 mile cruise in Mombasa, Kenya, leaving the ship at 10 am (1 am Boulder time) on April 2, arriving home at 6 pm on April 3rd: 41 hours from ship to home--that's with all flights more or less on time. We flew a charter from Mombasa to Nairobi, the overnight 9 hour British Air flight from Nairobi to London, and the 10 hour BA non-stop from London to Denver.

The following 5 page picture album documents our 25,000 mile trip that included stops at Ascension and St. Helena Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, and Kenya in Africa, and Reunion and Mauritius in the South Indian Ocean.

At the beach in Phuket, Thailand, January 1998. M/v Song of Flower is anchored off shore. I met Kathy during a 1995 lecturing stint from Aqaba to Singapore and honeymooned a year later on the Song of Flower. We returned to the ship to celebrate our 2 1/4 year wedding anniversary as regular passengers when this picture was taken. We were back on the ship in May, 1999 during a fourth lecturing gig, traveling from Athens to Istanbul and back to Venice. Our almost 6 years together included lots of fantastic travel and lots of wonderful times. It started with a cruise and ended unfortunately with this cruise. I'm not about to stop traveling.
