At the northern border of Thailand: across the Mekong River behind us are Burma (left) and Laos (right). This area was famous for various agricultural products. The three countries deny that this is still a source of their GNP, but we saw quite a few BMWs and other vehicles not often seen in developing economies. |

The famous mountain in the background did not have a roller coaster inside, but we found in 1997 that certain theme park aspects do exist there. |

The River Tees Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough, England was a marvel of 1912 engineering. Notice the hanging ferry deck behind Mike. There are only three such structures still in operation. We passed up an afternoon in York to check this out and got a personal tour from the operator.
