| At the northern border of Thailand: across the Mekong River behind us are Burma (left) and Laos (right). This area was famous for various agricultural products. The three countries deny that this is still a source of their GNP, but we saw quite a few BMWs and other vehicles not often seen in developing economies. | |

The River Tees Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough, England was a marvel of 1912 engineering. Notice the hanging ferry deck behind Mike. There are only three such structures still in operation. We passed up an afternoon in York to check this out and got a personal tour from the operator.
